Buying Handmade Jewelry on Etsy
Etsy was born in 2005 as a platform for artisans around the world to sell their handmade creations. Before that there was no place that was dedicated to such a cause. For many years Etsy kept its place as the No.1 selling platform for handmade products, but in recent years Amazon is fighting back with their Amazon handmade section, giving artisant the opportunity to sell their art in the biggest E-commerce platform in the world.
You can find amazing handmade jewelry @ Etsy, but you'll need to sift through tons of cheap factory made jewelry first, as Etsy does not put an emphasis on stopping sellers that offer this kind of products. I recommend using the filters Etsy offers to get rid of the cheap non-handmade items. My favorite way is to use the price filter and view items that are more than 50$.
Few more important things to do before placing your order:
- Sales - Etsy shows you how many sales the artist has made, buy from people that have more then a few sales.
- Reviews - Look at the sellers rating and read some of the reviews he received.
- Sizes - Pay special notice to the different sizes the artist offers, most of the artist will have an explanation about the jewelry sizing in the product description. You can use my measurement guide for bracelets & rings here.
- Message the artist - Most of the artists that sell on Etsy are really nice and give excellent customer support, Don't hesitate asking them any question you want about the products you're interested in.
That's it! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions on buying jewelry on Etsy, I'll do my best to help you out!
